I started blogging back in 2003 when I hosted a site called Attaboy. That was a time where opinion blogs were exploding in popularity. Many had a “blogroll” with links to other sites and lots of us made sure to link to sites we liked to help build audiences. I had a small, faithful following and my posting activity level was high, as the country was in the midst of post-9/11 military engagements in the Middle East and a contentious presidential campaign.
Life eventually got in the way. Job changes, travel and other external forces pushed Attaboy aside until I could no longer justify the hosting expenses.
I still have all the content I posted over the years and I may pull the best of it out at some point for a nostalgic look back. One thing I know I’ll be reassessing – my battle with a British psychic over a satirical post about one of his alleged “seances.” His boxers were in a major atomic wedgie over the jokes I made about him and he threatened to sue me for libel…it’s a fun story, and someday, I will bring it back.
Now that I’m retired, I wanted to have a little place to make the occasional fun post or blow off some boomer steam – you know, shouting at clouds for a few paragraphs. I’m going to post about stuff I like – harness racing, music, tech, family, my truck. I’m self-hosting it for now. I have comments turned off. After nine years working in cloud-based security for small sites, I saw way too many WordPress sites get overwhelmed by comment spam, and I haven’t got the time. I’ll eventually put up a contact page so people can reach out.
Happy you found the place.
